What do I have to do before a wax?
Getting ready for a wax is key to a successful session! Adequate preparation helps to have a satisfying waxing experience with the best results. Here are some tips:
-
Gently exfoliate the waxing area 48 hrs prior to your appointment.
-
On the day of your wax, ensure the area is clean and avoid using heavy lotions or oils.
-
Avoid caffeine or alcohol if possible as this will increase skin’s sensitivity. Drink plenty of water instead!
-
Avoid sun exposure or tanning beds/spray tans a day before and a day after your wax appointment.
Are there products I shouldn’t use before a wax?
Some Skincare Products That Can Reduce Wax Effectiveness. One of them is Retinol. This is a powerful anti-aging/acne product and should not be used with waxing as it increases skin sensitivity. To ensure a successful waxing session, stop using retinol products at least a week before. Medications like Retin A, Renova, or Accutane can speed up skin exfoliation, increasing the risk of skin removal during waxing. On the day of waxing, avoid heavy lotions, oils, or creams that can make the skin greasy and reduce wax effectiveness.
How long does my hair have to be?
For effective waxing, hair should be at least ¼ inch long, ideally up to ½ inch, equivalent to the size of a grain of rice. This length allows the wax to grip the hair properly and remove the entire follicle. If the hair is too short, the wax may not hold securely, leading to increased pain, repeated waxing in the same spot, or incomplete hair removal. If hairs are longer than the recommended length, it is okay!
Should I shave before my wax?
No, it is not recommended to shave before waxing! Shaving can cause skin irritation and also result in hair being too short for effective waxing. We highly recommend including waxing in your beauty routine as it significantly reduces the need to shave between waxing sessions, saving you time and simplifying your grooming routine.
What does waxing feel like?
Everyone wants to know! Initially, waxing might cause discomfort as the hair follicles are firmly rooted with a blood supply. However, regular waxing every four weeks prevents the hair from regrowing deeply, making it weaker and easier to remove over time. At Serenity Waxing Studio, our top-quality wax, skilled Technicians, and precise techniques combine to provide you with an exceptional service. If you're concerned about sensitivity, we suggest taking ibuprofen or aspirin approximately 30 minutes before your appointment.
Can my hair be too long?
Hair longer than half an inch tends to break rather than be removed completely, resulting in shorter-lasting results. Additionally, long hair may conceal other hairs during waxing, causing multiple strips on the same area. However, if your hair exceeds half an inch, no need to fret. Leave the scissors aside and trust our Technicians to handle any necessary trimming before waxing! Longer hairs may result in a more painful wax but we assure you we will still be able to remove the hairs effectively.
How long will my wax last?
Waxing is a progressive process; the more regularly you do it, the more improved the outcomes become. Initially, you may notice quicker regrowth after the first wax, but with each passing session, you'll notice longer intervals of hair-free skin. Unlike shaving, which only eliminates the external part of the hair, waxing pulls out the entire hair in one go, leading to longer-lasting results
How long should I wait in between waxes?
It varies from person to person, but usually, you should wait around two to four weeks between waxing sessions. Make sure your hair has grown out to at least ¼ of an inch before waxing, as this may vary in duration for individuals. While you may be eager to remove hair quickly, avoid shaving between waxing appointments. Shaving can result in hair being too short for effective waxing and can reverse the progress made towards achieving softer, finer hair from previous waxing sessions.
Will my hair grow back differently?
Absolutely! This is fantastic news, after each waxing session, your hair grows back softer and finer, leading to improved results with every wax. Over time, the hair becomes less noticeable between sessions. Consistent waxing enhances the overall waxing experience for you!
